The city of Anchorage is the largest in Alaska with a population of 275,000; this town established in 1915 was a headquarters to railroad construction. A sophisticated metropolis surrounded by wilderness is definitely a phenomenon.

With its high per capita income, low crime rate, and low taxes made Anchorage employment so demanding. Anchorage is the commercial heart of south-central and western Alaska, surrounded by Knik Arm and Turnagain arm of Cook Inlet in the west, north and south. Moreover, in the Eats is the Mountain of Chugach with in almost 10,000 feet peak that blocks warm air coming from the Gulf of Mexico. The city is protected from cold air by the Alaskan range, makes the temperature 30 degrees warmer than the rest of the state.

The expansion of the Trans-Alaska pipeline, the largest construction project in history increased Anchorage employment in the service industries. The city government has employed about 4,300 state employees and 10,000 federal employees in four major sectors that compromise the Anchorage employment is in the industry of transportation, convention and tourism, military and oil and gas. The busiest industry is transportation, 10 percent of which is from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) with at least 560 transcontinental cargo flights. Military industry employs almost 8,500 within three military divisions Fort Richardson Army, Kulis Air National Guard, Elmendorf Air Force Base, all based in Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Other significant industries are in the field of Finance, construction, education and healthcare

Well-educated and low median age comprises the labor pool of the city. Most of the residents are high school graduates and One year of college education for most of the adult resident of anchorage. Anchorage employment had increased to about 28 percent in 8 years from 1995 at same time their service industry increasing to about 114 percent making the city an attractive tourist destination.

Top Employers of anchorage are the Ted Stevens International Airport World’s fifth busiest airport by Cargo traffic. Housing the three major divisions of military of the state, the airport also houses FedEx Express and United Parcel Service handling cargo services to and from Far East. Alyeska Pipeline Service that is also known as Alaska Corporation established in 1970, operating the pipelines of oil from the North Slope of Alaska. Teleco Telephone established 1979 system specialist in PBX system offering installation technical, maintenance support to Norstar, Samsung, Avaya, Lucent, Nec and Comdial system to name a few.

The most popular employment in Alaska with the majority of workers being college degree holders are Registered Nurses with nearly 3,500 local jobs, Sales Representative, wholesale and manufacturing with 1,280 local jobs, Accountants and auditors with 1,090 local jobs. Managers consisting of 1,010 local jobs, Civil engineers with 860 jobs , Chief executives with 850 and Social and human service assistants with 820.Airline pilots, copilots, and flight engineers with 680, Lawyers with 680. Other popular anchorage employment with majority of workers does not have a college degree are Retails salesperson with 6,390 job. General and operation managers with 4,560 jobs, Office clerks and general with 4,350 and freight, stock, and material movers with 3,120, Combined food preparation and serving workers, including fast food with 3,050 local jobs., Cashiers with 3,010, Janitors and cleaners, except maids and housekeeping cleaners with 3,000 jobs.

Manufacturing jobs abound and are varied. It doesn’t follow a universal description and only requires a candidate who is able to follow instructions and can work from blueprints to computers. If you have a driver’s license and have the ability to use hand power tools, brake press equipments and electro-mechanical equipments then you are qualified to apply for this job. Thousands of manufacturing sector jobs in transportation, pharmaceuticals, petroleum and aerospace are seeking career opportunities for workers who have experience and expertise in these fields.
